This is an updated lesson (#3) in a 13-week series that I use in my class. I wanted one quarter to introduce the Old Testament with a basic timeline of the people and events. The students can learn what happened in the Old Testament and how those events lead to Jesus. This does not include Noah but includes specific events in the life of Abraham and Sarah, his son Isaac and Rebekah, and Jacob and Esau. This leads to Jacob and the 12 Sons/12 Tribes.

These lessons are a combination of the Life Overview Series and other lessons. They have been updated and tweaked since I taught these. I will show you what I used to blend several posts into 13 lessons. It was basically pick and choose and you can change any to fit your needs or wants. For instance, I always teach Esther so that is one of the lessons. And I picked Daniel as the last lesson. Those can be substituted if you prefer another. Most of the worksheets have the teacher's answer sheets included.

These lessons are an overview to teach about the Old Testament people and how they lead to Jesus. The lesson is a summary and is a preview to the 12 Tribes of Israel, which is the next lesson. I used these visuals during the lesson and the kids loved them and it helped them understand what God was telling Abraham. I used the Anchor Chart to help them understand descendants. When I described God telling Abraham his descendants would be like the dust on the earth, I opened the container with dirt. I pinched a small amount and showed them the dirt particles on my finger and said that we can't count these small grains of dirt, and to think of all the dirt/dust that is on the earth. That was what God was telling Abraham! that's a lot of descendants; you can't even count them! The stars in the sky photo was next and they understood that they can't count the stars. Then someone asked what was in the container with the seashells, and guessed it was sand. I did the same thing with the grains of sand, and they loved it so much, they all wanted to pinch it, too! This was a fun, easy demonstration. At the end, I gave them the bookmark and the star stickers to remind them of God's promises to Abraham.
There are photos of these promises included in the application pack.

Nothing is too hard for God. Genesis 18:14

These printables can be used for this lesson and any other appropriate lesson and were kept plain intentionally for this purpose. A key verse was chosen from the chapter to use for discussion, memory work, and copy work. Students can color or paint the designs on the banner, poster, door hanger and bookmark. Stickers can be added. String or ribbon can be added to the banner to hang and on the bookmark.
