The Fiery Furnace with Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-Nego
visual aid created with an oatmeal container by Jeanne Dickson.
Jeanne's Newsletter Foldable is included!
Thanks to Jeanne Dickson for permission to share this idea and photos.
Jeanne used an oatmeal container to create the furnace.
This is a close-up of the inside using flannelgraph people.
Information from Jeanne: The furnace is made from an oatmeal cylinder. An
opening was cut in the lid (on the bottom) and a sing light bulb placed inside
(has an on/off switch) to make the red cellophane glow and that 4th person show
up.
I made
a smaller color copy of the larger flannel graph and cut it out to place in the
furnace. Also, was able to turn the lid around so that the 4th man doesn't
appear right away.
This is Jeanne's full display with the furnace, king, idol, and Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-Nego.
You will need a
42 oz. or
18 oz. Quick Minute Oats empty & clean canister. I used a Kroger generic container.
I found the tiny lights
here. Look for blinking lights! If you can, they are available in October in the crafts or decorating isles at the stores.
Cut about 12" of the red
cellophane (found in the party wrapping isle.)
There are several options included to cover your container. Some are black & white so you can print on color paper. You can paint it or use plain paper to design your own, if you prefer.
These stand-ups are included in two sizes.
The statue is full-page only.
The Newsletter Foldable can be used as a review handout, sent in the mail or in an email, especially
for those unable to be in class. The same lesson is included for the teacher. The preschool lesson and Newsletter Foldable with pictures to color are included.
This is the inside with the lesson and pictures. On the outside, Jeanne adds notes and assorted items. She might add a Bible verse, memory verse, a Bible song or two, a picture to color, a reward reminder and/or notes about class and hello to students. You could add a puzzle, maze, worksheet, whatever you prefer.
