VBS Under (God's) Construction
Featuring 1. Aaron
Our lessons were chosen to learn about people that were under construction. God's construction. These people made bad choices and mistakes, but eventually were faithful and obeyed God. Aaron listened to the people and made the gold calf. He eventually became the high priest. I used this piñata gold calf that I made years ago and the kids love it!

Look for a donkey or llama piñata. Remove all the paper, etc. Cover with Mod Podge (doesn’t matter if you use matte or glossy) and spray paint it gold.
I added this snake and a walking stick for more hands-on while discussing Aaron talking to Pharaoh. These really get the kids' attention!
I use the Magnetic Board Visuals (MBV) for something different. I move beside the wall decorated for the person each night and use the wall also. The MBV can be used how you prefer, but I print on cardstock, laminate and add thin magnets to the back.

There are so many options for an application for this lesson! I decided to use this one by Lindsey Nabors that uses the construction and toolbox theme. This application discusses the tools that God gives us. Like the Bible, Bible class, VBS, the church, etc. There are directions, ideas to use it and options for printing included.
This is how it looked on the door. I glued everything to this galvanized background and put Velcro on each construction tool and the tool labels. Click here to download.
Another application is idols. How can things we have now be an idol? There are options included in the file on how to make and use the cards. And I am sure you and the students can add more. Click here to download.Another option is to discuss peer pressure. This was my first thought and couldn't decide between discussing idols or peer pressure! But, I went with the tool idea for this first lesson. Like all the application resources, this doesn't have to be used with this lesson and can be used and tweaked for any discussion about peer pressure. Click here to download it.
I reused my Group Wilderness VBS 2014 Escape Wall Hanging which I love because it covers the whole wall! On the left side, I just added Moses coming down from the mountain, Aaron and the gold calf. The gold calf is cut from gold poster board.
On the right side, I added Aaron as the high priest, complete with 'bells and pomegranates' (painted small wood beads), the altar painted bronze with the priests.
Click here to see more about the High Priest's breastplate.
To make the people, I take the person from a Sweet picture and blow them up full-size on the overhead. I painted the outfits and printed the faces and anything with skin to match. I used this tape as the divider for the before and after scene for each person we studied.
I looked for a mountain to add for the background, and couldn't find anything affordable... so I made one! And then, I decided not to use it because it is too small for a big wall; but I decided to keep the download here in case someone else can use it on a bulletin board. This is a photo of Mount Sinai and stretched out onto 6 pages. It is cut and glued to make the one, long piece. Really easy, though. And you can delete any of the end of the mountain pages to make it shorter or print extra and trim off the top to make it longer. Click here to download it.
I kept the door simple and used this Galvanized Metal bulletin board paper as the background. Then, I just printed and added the assorted posters I made for this VBS and used some signs I purchased here. Click here to download the signs file.
