This is a good lesson to use by itself or at the beginning of the Big Picture Overview Series.
This will be a 13-week series that I used in my class. I wanted one quarter to introduce the Old Testament with a basic timeline of the people and events. The students can learn what happened in the Old Testament and how those events lead to Jesus. These lessons are a combination of the Life Overview Series and other lessons. They have been updated and tweaked since I taught these. I will show you what I used to blend several posts into 13 lessons. It was basically pick and choose and you can change any to fit your needs or wants. For instance, I always teach Esther so that is one of the lessons. And I picked Daniel as the last lesson. Those can be substituted if you have another you'd rather use.

This lesson introduces the overall Old Testament, so it is not in-depth. It just gives the Big Picture. The rest of the quarter is more in-depth, but still overall. For instance, the Kings. That is one lesson. It's a lot to cover, but I feel with so many kings, we discussed the events that happened to divide the kingdom and I gave basic information on the good kings so they would recognize their name when they hear them. Keep in mind these lessons are slightly longer with very different application reviews.

*Please note: The file includes the same lesson two times. The second lesson includes the notes of what we discussed and looked up in the Bible. Instead of teaching the whole time, the students looked up scriptures and we discussed some of the book titles and what they mean.  I used this lesson for the summer quarter, and we have a lot of people traveling, so the students miss some of the classes. This is a good series because they can be used individually and do not build on each other. It is an introduction to the Bible, how to find scriptures and basic background. This series introduces the overall Old Testament. I teach the same students for a year, then they move to the next class. After this series, I teach Life of Jesus and finish the year with the Book of Acts. This is probably the best first lesson I have ever had with a group of students!

This is an updated file for the same basic lesson. I update things every so often, and decided I wanted a more basic visual. So, the original charts are still available below. I tweaked the lesson a bit and the file include two of the same lesson because I separate it and tape the lesson to the back of the visuals to keep me more on point. Plus, if someone else needs to teach it, it's all ready for them. There are notes for when to use the Timeline Bulletin Board, but that can be skipped if you are not using it.

These are the visuals that I used, so you can see what topics I included in the lesson.

I used the first cross which is a new word fill-in-the-blank for discussion about Jesus. There is a optional blank cross to use if you choose.

This flipbook was used to let the students write a couple of key thoughts for each time period. You can find what we wrote on the last page of the download.

 Completed Flipbook.

I used this file folder for this lesson. The students could follow along with the lesson like a visual aid. I kept these to reuse with other classes.

I also used this Bible Timeline File Folder Game. I made the pictures into stickers (which they love!) and the students added to it each week. Even though we studied Jesus and Acts after this quarter, rather than removing any pictures, I printed those pictures already on the page along with a couple that we wouldn't have as it's own lesson.

Click here if you want to print the one I used with some of the pictures already in place. This includes the completed teacher's visual also.

The original file has a teacher's visual completed. and a student file folder without any pictures on the timeline. All pictures will need to be cut and glued or made into stickers to use.

I have this bulletin board up and can use it as a visual aid for review anytime. The one on the left is stapled to the wall and the one on the right is a 4'x8' bulletin board. Click here to see more about these boards and others I use for these lessons.
