This scripture is found in Psalm 119:105. This scripture was mentioned in a comment and I thought it would make a great lesson on it's own. There are so many lessons that could be used with this theme.
It can be adapted to almost any age. There are plain printables included to create your own!

So many ideas kept coming while I created this lesson. I decided I would make a path in the room with the stones on the path that have the Bible questions. I originally thought to teach on Jesus is the light, or maybe how can we be a light, but I ended with basic Bible facts that I never get tired of making sure they know. I created a path first. You can use fabric or artificial grass. Then, lay the question stones on the path.
Also, you can purchase a lamp or flashlights to use as a light. I had the lamps from Target for a teacher's visual aid, and they were given the flashlights to keep. You can also print the lamp and Bible that is in the adult bulletin board pack (found here). I turned the lights off and let them turn on their flashlights to see the difference that a shining light makes. Obvious, I know, but it helps the kids see where I was going with the lesson. Explain that the Bible is just like the light. The Bible can help you see things so much better.

Then, thinking about how to teach the lesson while they are walking on the path answering questions, that was another challenge. I decided to make matching answer stones. These can be laid on top of the question stones, or they can be used for a bulletin board. They can be added to a bulletin board as you teach.
If you prefer, these can be used as a bulletin board so you can easily reuse them. You can put the answer stones under the larger question stones and use them like a lift-the-flap. Ask the question, then lift-the-flap to see the answer.

I also wanted something a little different from the worksheet. Although there is a fill-in-the-blank worksheet and a plain worksheet, I decided to make file folder games. These are not technically a game, but you can make it into one if you prefer. I like file folder games because everything is kept right in the file folder. The students can write in the answers for a one-time use. Or, as we 'walked along the path', we read the scriptures and we discussed the answers so they can reuse it.

Because I wanted the students to be able to reuse the file folders, I printed the Bible (included) and glued the bottom and sides Only to create a pocket and put it on the back. I folded and tucked the answer sheet into the Bible pocket. I want the students to look for the answers in the Bible, not in someone's books, online, etc.
To make it seem like a game, I purchased Learning Resources Family Counters at my local teacher's supply store or you can see them at Amazon. It can be played like a game by if you answer the question, you move ahead. If you miss, you lose a turn. I let them move their piece as we discussed each question on the floor path.
This is what the worksheets look like. They are basically the same as the file folder game. I have included a blank template (with the scripture) when I could so you can design your own lesson and visuals.
Everything but the file folder printables are in this pack:
full-page path question stones
half-page answer stones
worksheets
answer sheet (included in the FFG pack also)
shadow person with light (if you want to use it for bulletin board)
full-page Bible

Here is an application worksheet to bring it all together.
Discuss different
things that can be a stumbling stone for your students. Each class and age will
be different and students will have different answers. Stumbling stones can
lead us off of the path of what God wants. But following God’s Word will help guide us
to stay on the path.
Thank you for all your resources! Its a huge blessing to me as I prepare to teach Sunday School. May God bless you abundantly for the work you are doing!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE your material and I use it often! Thank you for providing us with such great teaching aids. I am creating the file folder game, "God's Word is a lamp..." but the lamp image provided in the download is not the correct one. It's the one at the top of this page. Is there any chance you can send me the picture without the words "Ideas Printables Bulletin Board etc." on it? Again, thank you for all your hard work!!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for letting me know! So sorry I missed that! I changed the link with the correction. Please redownload the file @ https://drive.google.com/file/d/1h_uuzbMKl1whpN74E8szZz7JEjEkYMBm/view?usp=sharing
