This week's lesson is #7 in the Life of David Series. It is found in 1 Samuel 16:1-13 and we finally begin to discuss David. God told Samuel to find one of Jesse's sons to anoint as the next king.
Last week
we learned that Saul was told to totally destroy the Amalekites. They didn’t
obey God. They saved King Agag, the best sheep and oxen. Because of Saul’s
disobedience, the Lord rejected Saul as king. Saul’s disobedience really upset
Samuel and he didn’t see Saul again.
Samuel
replied "How can I? If Saul finds out, he will kill me!" God told
Samuel to take a calf and say that you have come to offer a sacrifice. Then,
invite Jesse and his sons to the sacrifice. Samuel did just what the Lord told
him to do.
When Samuel
arrived in Bethlehem, he invited Jesse and his sons to come to the sacrifice.
Samuel knew that the Lord would tell him which of the sons of Jesse would be
chosen.
Eliab was the
oldest son and when he came to Samuel, Samuel thought he was the one. Eliab was
tall and good looking. But God Samuel that He doesn’t look at how people look
on the outside; God looks at the heart inside. Eliab was not the one God had
chosen.
Jesse
called his next son Abinadab and had him walk in front of Samuel. Samuel said
that "The Lord has not chosen this one either." Next, Jesse had Shammah
walk by Samuel. But, Samuel the prophet said "The Lord has not chosen this
one either."
Four more
sons walked in front of Samuel, but Samuel said "This is not the one that
God has chosen." Then, Samuel asked Jesse "Are these all the sons you
have?"
Jesse told
Samuel "I have one more son. He is the youngest and is taking care of the
sheep."
Samuel told
Jesse to bring him and they would wait on the sacrifice. Finally, the youngest
son whose name was David, arrived. He was strong and healthy and he had
sparkling eyes. The Lord told Samuel "This is the one. Anoint him!"
So Samuel
took the horn of oil and anointed David in front of his brothers. From that day
forward, the Lord God was with David.
Application:
God uses young people to serve Him.
The printables for David in this series are for an older
age group than I usually post. Even though this one is, some of these lessons about David are not
appropriate for early elementary. But David is a great study. So, as you can
see from the above picture, there is a Q&A. This could be used with younger
groups by using the answer sheet and just asking the questions for
discussion. Each post in this series will have a maze and some type of puzzle.
The additional application has thought questions about how the students can
apply the lesson to their daily life. There are answer sheets for all
worksheets except for the last application. Everyone will have a different
set of answers. Click here to download.

The lesson is included since these are assorted visuals for King David.

ReplyDeleteHello! I have been searching for the hardcover children's Bible story book that contains all of these same images for over a decade! My parents used to read it to me and my younger siblings.I'm in my 40's now and would love to have a copy for my sons. Do you know where I can purchase one? I believe my parents had ordered it from Focus On the Family back in the 1980's.
ReplyDeleteHello, my understanding is this Bible has been discontinued. The pictures are available to use, though. I would check websites like eBay, or www.bookfinder.com, or maybe even Goodwill. Those are my go-to places to look for out of print books.
