There is so much to this lesson and so much fun for the kids to learn! The 10 Plagues is lesson 3 in the second quarter of our Bible study with preschoolers.
God talked to
Moses at the burning bush. God told Moses that he was to return to Egypt. Moses
was going to talk to Pharaoh for God. Moses took his family and went with his
brother Aaron to Egypt.
Moses and
Aaron went to Pharaoh and when Pharaoh said to show him a miracle, Aaron threw
down his staff and it turned into a snake! Pharaoh called in his magicians, and
they turned their staffs into snakes, too, except Aaron’s snake ate all their
snakes.
God sent the
10 plagues to show Pharaoh the power of God. They are:
1. Exodus 7:17 water
into blood: God told Moses and Aaron to meet Pharaoh at the river in the
morning. Aaron used his staff to hit the water and all the water in Egypt
turned to blood. All fish died and they couldn’t drink the water.
2. Exodus 8:6
frogs…everywhere: Seven days later Aaron held his staff over the river. God
made frogs come and they covered everything!
Pharaoh said
have God take them away and I will let the people go. All the frogs died except
for the ones by the river. Pharaoh wouldn’t let the people go, so God sent the
next plague.
3. Exodus 8:17
lice on all people and animals: Aaron used his staff to hit the dirt. When he
did, it turned to lice! The lice were all over the people and the animals.
4. Exodus 8:24 swarms
of flies: Since Pharaoh wouldn’t let the Hebrew people go, God sent flies. Lots
of flies! But the flies were only in the Egyptian homes. When God took the
flies away, Pharaoh still didn’t let the people go.
5. Exodus 9:6 God
made all the Egyptian livestock animals (oxen, sheep, horses, donkeys, camels) sick and they died. None of the Hebrew animals were
sick.
6. Exodus 9:10
boils on all the people and animals: God told Moses to take ashes from the
furnace. Moses tossed the ashes in the air and when the ashes fell to the
ground, it turned to painful boils and sores on the Egyptian people.
7. Exodus 9:23 God
sent thunder and hail and fire: Moses told Pharaoh that God was going to send
hail. It was going to be a strong hail. God told Moses to hold his staff toward
heaven. God sent the hail with thunder.
The animals
and people that were outside when the hail came down died. The hail broke the
trees and plants.
8. Exodus 10:14
locusts: God sent a wind from the east. The wind brought locust. Lots and lots
of locusts. Locusts are like grasshoppers. There were so many, the land was dark
with them, and they ate EVERYTHING green! All the fruit, grass, trees.
Everything! God sent another wind from the west and took all the locust away. Pharaoh wouldn’t let the people go.
9. Exodus 10:22
Thick darkness for three days: God told Moses to stretch out his staff toward
heaven. It became dark. Really dark. For three days! So dark the Egyptians stayed in their homes!
10. Exodus 12:29 firstborn
died: God went out about midnight and all the Egyptian firstborn died, even the
firstborn animals. The Hebrew put blood from a lamb on the doorframe (top &
sides) and God passed over their home.
Pharaoh
finally let the people go. Next week we will learn about God continuing to
watch over the people after they left Egypt.
Please note: This is such a long lesson. I usually divide it when teaching early elementary ages but didn't want to get too in depth for preschoolers.
This
download includes the color and black & white set of the 10 Plagues. I
printed them onto cardstock, cut them out. I glued the label on the paper bag
and put the plagues cards inside. I also added these hands on items: plastic snake, 1. plastic fish, plastic frogs, 3. rice, 4. plastic flies (find during Halloween), 5. animals, 6. Band-Aid, 7. white pompom, 8. clothespin locust, 9. square of black cardstock, 10. door (see here).
To
use as a review, you can print 2 sets and have students match the cards and
tell you what the card represents. If you add any extras, they can match items
to the correct day. Click here to download.
This is a really cute song for the 10 Plagues with visuals/flip chart.
Click here to download the black & white version.
All of the 45 visuals are not shown.
Click here to download the pictures to color.
(These are the same as the visuals but are black & white.)
