This continues our series learning about Jesus. This is week 3 in the fourth quarter of a year of Preschool Bible Study that I assist with on Wednesday evening.
There are
two parts of the Bible: Old & New Testament. We can learn about Jesus and
His life in the New Testament. The first four books are called the Gospels.
They are Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.
Who
remembers the names of Jesus’ parents? Mary and Joseph
The angel sent from God
named Gabriel visited Mary and Joseph. Gabriel told them that Mary was going to
have a baby. They were to name Him Jesus.
Mary and
Joseph lived in Nazareth. They went to Bethlehem to be counted and they
couldn’t find a place to stay because all the inns were full. Mary and Joseph stayed
in a stable and when Mary had baby Jesus, they laid Him in a manger. There were
shepherds that came to visit Jesus. The shepherds were very happy to see Him! When
the shepherds left Jesus, they told everyone about Him!
Last week we
learned about Jesus when He was about a month old. There was an older man named
Simeon that lived in Jerusalem. Simeon went to the temple and saw Jesus. Simeon took Jesus in his arms and was so happy
to see Jesus the Savior.
There was
also an older lady in the temple. Anna
was 84 years old. She stayed in the temple fasting and serving God. She also
gave thanks to God for seeing Jesus and told everyone about Him.
Jesus has
been growing and is about 1 ½ to 2 years old. The Bible tells us that Jesus was a Young
Child.
There were
Wise men from the east. They studied astrology. That means they studied the
stars and planets. One night, they saw a bright star in the sky. They followed
the star to Jerusalem and told King Herod that they were looking for the King
of the Jews. They had seen His star in the east, and they wanted to worship
Him.
When King
Herod heard this, he didn’t like it. King Herod gathered the chief priests and
scribes together and questioned them about where Jesus was born. Then King
Herod talked to the wise men. He sent the wise men to Bethlehem and told them
to look for baby Jesus.
The star
they the wise men had been following, was in the sky again. They followed the
star until it was over the house where young Jesus lived.
The wise men
saw Mary with Jesus and they fell down and worshipped Jesus. They opened their
treasures and gave gifts to Jesus. They gave Him gold, frankincense and myrrh. The
wise men were so happy to find Jesus!
