Preschool Alphabet: M is for Moses & Miriam

These preschool Bible lessons are created and used at home, so there are some basic preschool learning skills printables added to each post. The Bible lesson and Bible printables are suitable for home or Bible class use.  This week is M for Moses. There is so much for Moses and it was hard to decide what to talk about this week! So, I went with the beginning and used Moses and Miriam...

This week we worked on the letter M. We studied M is for Moses and his sister Miriam. We find them in Exodus 2:1-10. Amram (father) and Jochebed (mother) had a baby boy named Moses.

Jochebed wanted to save baby Moses from Pharaoh. Pharaoh was the ruler in Egypt and he wanted all the baby boys to be killed! Jochebed, hid Moses for 3 months, but then she couldn’t hide Moses anymore. He was getting bigger!

So, Jochebed made a basket from the bulrushes (the grasses along the river). Jochebed put Moses in the basket and put the basket in the weeds on the bank of the river.

Jochebed told Miriam (his sister) to watch over Moses while he was in the basket. Pharaoh’s daughter came to the river to take a bath. She saw the basket floating in the river and sent one of her maids to get the basket.

When the Pharaoh’s daughter opened the basket and saw the baby, she knew he was one of the Hebrew babies. Miriam, Moses’ sister, asked the Pharaoh’s daughter if she wanted her to find a nurse for the baby. Miriam went to get their mother and Pharaoh’s daughter told Jochebed, “Take this baby and nurse him for me, and I will pay you money to do this.”

Pharaoh’s daughter called him Moses because “I drew him out of the water.”

This Birth of Moses printable has the background with Miriam and the princess in the picture. The basket with Moses is printed on a separate page. I used a brad to connect the top to the bottom of the basket. This way, the top will swing up and down showing Moses inside. This can be left separate, or glued to the background. This is an easy lesson to set up and let them retell about Moses. You can use any blue fabric, felt, towel, blanket, sheet, etc. for the water. Add any basket you might have and use their baby doll for Moses. If you have enough kids, someone can be Miriam, a princess and Jochebed. They love this!

I also used the Bible felts to let them review what they had learned about Moses.

 I found these monkeys at Dollar Tree. They love them because the hand Velcro together and can hang from anything. I use these for Peter's Vision when we discuss clean vs. unclean animals. For the Mouse, I just hand cut the parts. Once the parts are glued to the paper, add the wiggle eyes and draw the whiskers. And the Mitten template is here. I printed the mittens on each of their favorite color construction paper. The Moose is included in the pack here.

The M&M's were so much fun! They started by using different colored Dot Markers to make the circle shapes for the M&M's. Once the ink dried, they used a letter M stamper and stamped the m on all the circles. Of course, there were real M&M's to eat!
