12 Questions: Memphis Ministry Day 2 Moses

We had a Memphis mission in July which you can see more here. The Elders decided to do a mission work in our home town. The Deacons that work with the children set up a mini VBS style learning session for the kids for the 2 hours that the adults were in the assembly. I asked to teach about Moses. I have a lot of visuals and there is so much to study about him. I wanted to discuss the Old Law and bring the last night of learning into the New Law and Jesus. So, this post is the second night's lesson which was a lot! The 10 Plagues, The Pillar of Cloud & Fire, The Red Sea Crossing and God Sends Manna & Quail. Yes, it seems like a lot, but there were 25 minutes that I used as an overview. I wanted the kids to learn as much as they could! They had 3 other areas of review for each evening. (I actually planned to teach this, but ended up reviewing last night's lesson and only taught the 10 plagues! So, I moved the rest to the next evening to teach. I really wasn't concerned with 'my list', so these can easily be modified.)

This second night of Moses, I set up the hands on visuals you see above. I used my 10 plagues visuals, Moses' staff and large snake, the pillar of cloud & fire, The Red Sea crossing and they picked up a shell as they crossed over. I also used the manna & quail and they picked up manna (oyster crackers) like the people did. Click on each underlined description to see more. I also used the 10 Plagues Song.



The kids love these accordions, so I thought these would make the 10 Plagues easier for them. It was something they could hold and see while we talked about each plague. Normally, I let the kids cut and put these together themselves, but for this type of learning, I had them ready for them. (Well, a friend cut them out for me and if you need a 100 cut out, share the fun with more than one person! ☺)  Click here to print.

I wrote a condensed lesson that includes Moses the 10 Plagues, God leading the people with the Pillar of Cloud and Fire, The Parting of the Red Sea and God Feeds the People Manna & Quail. List of items for 10 Plagues review game:

Each lesson has some type of review game that Paulette creates and is in charge of. They really enjoyed this one! We used a basket with a small piece of fabric. The kids reached in and removed an item. They told everyone what it was and whether or not it was a plague that we had talked about.
