K is for King = King Solomon

Preschool at home ideas and printables!

This week we are discussing K for King Solomon. You can find King Solomon in 1 Kings 3. King Solomon's father was David, who fought the giant Goliath. God appeared to Solomon in a dream and asked him “What can I give you?”  Solomon told God that he would like to have a good heart, and know right from wrong, for the people that he was king over. God was happy with Solomon’s choice. He didn’t ask for a longer life or more riches. God gave King Solomon a wise and understanding heart and God also gave Solomon riches. God told Solomon that if he followed God's commandments, Solomon would have a long life. In 4:34 the Bible tells us that men of all nations and kings from all over came to hear the Wisdom of Solomon.

It was easy to act out this lesson, since there were two women and I was teaching two girls! I gave each of them a baby boy. I didn't go in depth, since they have a baby sister and they are only preschool. Some early elementary students have a hard time with the facts. (And, it was obviously a bad day for pictures!)

I told the girls that the two women took one baby boy to Solomon. They both said the baby was theirs. Solomon had to use his wisdom that God gave him to decide which mother the baby belonged to.

Also, we talked about his riches, the temple he built, and that Solomon was known for his wisdom.

So, you know they had the most fun with the riches part! I used boxes from Hobby Lobby as a treasure chest and let them add coins and 'jewels' (glass rocks from Dollar Tree). I told they could only have a certain number of coins and a certain number of jewels. So, we were able to add counting to the learning also. And, making decisions, because you just can't have everything you want.

We made kangaroo pouches after talking about kangaroo moms carrying their babies in their pouch. I folded a sheet of construction paper in half and cut a tab off the front to make it easier for them to put the kangaroos in and out. and I glued both sides together. I printed the kangaroos onto brown cardstock (found in the download pack) and cut them out.

The girls used alphabet stickers, foamies and a K wood stamper to put the letter k all the front of the pouch. I was going to pin them to their shirts to be like a kangaroo, bit they wouldn't have it! But, that is an idea for you!

As usual, she was excited to see the maze. You are to take the two women to the center to see King Solomon.  There are always other printables in the alphabet packs which includes several pages like K is for Kangaroo, etc. and not necessarily from the Bible. But, can be used as God made it. There are always retelling cards to print and let them tell you what they learned about the Bible. And, there are always one or two pictures to color of the Bible facts for each letter. Click here to print the K pack.
